At The Real Dill, we believe that it is our responsibility to seek out creative ways to leverage our resources in order to make a positive and lasting impact on our community. In 2017, we launched our Charitable Partner Program, in which we partner with one local, Denver nonprofit on a long-term basis to achieve our goals of giving back through community outreach and fundraising. We are so proud of the fact that we have been able to contribute over $56,000 to The GrowHaus throughout our partnership, and we could never have done it without the help of our incredible community. We are also honored to announce that it is our fifth year of having The GrowHaus as our Charitable Partner, and we cannot wait to see how big of an impact we can make again this year.
Most importantly, we are so excited to announce the newest component of our partnership with The GrowHaus: The Real Dill products are now available on The GrowHaus’ Online Market! Imagine receiving your favorite pickles at your doorstep and making a difference at the same time. The good news is that you finally can. All you have to do is add your favorite products to your food box subscription, and you will automatically support The GrowHaus' mission to deliver fresh food to families in need at the same time.
Before we dive into the Food Box Program, we want to give some background about The GrowHaus and the important work that this amazing organization does for our local community. For those who are unfamiliar, The GrowHaus is a local, Denver nonprofit with the mission to cultivate community-driven food justice through education and food access. They offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. The organization serves the Globeville and Elyria-Swansea (GES) neighborhoods, two spirited neighborhoods in North Denver, rich in culture and tradition. However, residents of GES face barriers to living a healthy lifestyle. There is not one full service grocery store for the 10,000 residents living in GES. Additionally, the heavily industrious neighborhood has been deemed one of the most polluted zip codes in the country. However, residents of Globeville and Elyria-Swansea are incredibly resilient and passionate about supporting their neighbors and ensuring healthy food access.
The GrowHaus strives to be a community-driven organization, meaning that their goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of their community or others from similar neighborhoods. They are successful when the youth, families, and communities that they work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.
The GrowHaus No Cost Grocery Program
Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, The GrowHaus has faced an unprecedented amount of challenges. Due to the pandemic, the Globeville and Elyria-Swansea neighborhood suffered heightened levels of food insecurity, causing an even bigger decrease in food access. The GrowHaus also unexpectedly closed their building due to structural issues, which led their team and community to become even more creative, nimble, and resilient.
However, 2020 was also a year that the Denver nonprofit was able to overcome many obstacles and make a tremendous impact on their local community. Two years ago, The GrowHaus launched a new no cost emergency food distribution program, Rapid Response Food Distribution, which ensures the Globeville and Elyria-Swansea community's food access. They expanded their team and relocated to a new warehouse to execute the new program. In March 2020, after receiving many requests from their neighbors, The GrowHaus began making grocery deliveries to nearly 550 families located in the Globeville and Elyria-Swansea community. Each grocery delivery includes one bag of rescued produce and one bag of bulk dry goods (ie. rice, beans, and flour.)
In 2022, The GrowHaus continues to distribute 400 no-cost grocery delivery food boxes every week for families in Globeville, Elyria-Swansea in North Denver. Since the onset of the pandemic, they have distributed the equivalent of over 900,000 no-cost meals to community members.
The GrowHaus Food Box Program
Aside from the no cost Rapid Response Food Distribution grocery delivery program, The GrowHaus also operates a social enterprise weekly Food Box Program that serves residents of Globeville and Elyria-Swansea and greater Denver.
The GrowHaus' Food Box Program service brings super fresh, organic produce and locally, Colorado-made food products right to your doorstep. We are so excited to announce that you can now find The Real Dill pickles and Bloody Mary Mix in their grocery offerings. If you sign up for the grocery delivery program, you will receive a variety of produce items each week, and you can choose from hundreds of grocery items to add to your subscription, like your favorite pickles and Bloody Mary Mix.
The best part of the Food Box Program is that you can eat healthy while helping others eat healthy at the same time. Each food box purchased supports The GrowHaus' food access and education programming. The Food Box Program is one of the largest revenue streams that The GrowHaus has, and it is the main way they are able to provide free groceries to those in need. Similarly, it is how they can offer 60% off of the Food Box Program to those who do not qualify for the no cost grocery program, yet live in the Globeville and Elyria-Swansea community. You also support many local Colorado companies and makers by purchasing a subscription, and it is a great way to shop local.
Ready To Sign Up?
Signing up for the Food Box program is easy, and eating healthy and supporting a great cause has never been simpler! All you have to do is follow these steps:
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, The GrowHaus has delivered a total of 48,820 food packages; 28,585 of those packages were dry goods and 20,278 were fresh food packages. We are eager to help The GrowHaus grow those numbers again in 2022. In order to increase our impact, we are providing The Real Dill products to The GrowHaus at a discounted rate. This way, they can increase their profits, and with each food box sale they make, they are earning more revenue to further support their programming.
If you are in the local Denver area and are looking for The Real Dill pickles or any of our products, we encourage anyone who can to sign up for a food box delivery. For those who are out of the delivery zone and still want to support The GrowHaus, you can make a donation here.
