Since 2012, we have been on the quest to make the perfect all natural dill pickles. It all began when our cofounders, Justin and Tyler, were making pickles just for fun as a hobby. Then one day, they bit into a batch of what would later become our Jalapeño Honey Dills, and Justin and Tyler had a “Pickle Epiphany.” The pickles had an incredible depth of flavor, unbelievable crunch, and gorgeous presentation. They were unlike anything that they had ever tasted before. The two friends were hooked, and that’s when their hobby started turning into an obsession. So Justin and Tyler set out on the journey to create the best products of their kind in the best way possible.
Ever since Justin and Tyler decided to pursue pickle making full time, we have always approach consumer packaged goods with a chef’s mentality, which means that we are slaves to the details. We handcraft all of our pickles and Bloody Mary Mix in small batches, with obsessive attention to quality. Everything is created in-house, by hand, and made 100% from scratch using whole, singular ingredients. That means that none of our ingredients are compound ingredients, and we do no use anything that you do not recognize from your own pantry or garden. As a matter of fact, we are proud to say that all of the ingredients found in our products are words that you can pronounce (a true rarity these days!).
We believe in clean, simple, real food, and nutrition and authenticity are at the forefront of our production process. We carefully craft all of our products so that the raw ingredients shine. From the beautiful presentation to the fresh flavor, our products are designed around the natural, nutritious ingredients that we use in each unique recipe. We also believe that most people eat with their eyes, and with that in mind, we use fresh ingredients to illustrate unique and authentic flavor profiles. Not to mention, the visual presentation really adds plate appeal!
Although most of the things that we do at The Real Dill are pretty unconventional, we do not always reinvent the wheel. We focus on making traditional pickles with a unique, culinary twist. We use the same pickling or canning method that people have used for generations, when they can their harvest for the winter months. Traditionally, pickling is a form of canning or a means to preserve produce. Before there were grocery stores or a way to transport food across the globe, and everyone was a farmer, produce was canned so that it would last for a long period of time. This method prevented the produce from spoiling before the next harvest season. When we make our all natural dill pickles, we use the same cold pack method that people used when they were farmers and they canned pickles in their home kitchens.
First, we add all of the raw ingredients, spices, and garnishes to the jar. After the jar is packed to the top, we add hot pickle brine to the jar, and we seal it with a lid. Lastly, the jar is submerged in a water bath, which partially cooks the raw ingredients and also seals the jar so that everything is safely preserved and mold will not form. This process allows us to make a shelf stable product that will last, unopened, for a long time. It also naturally preserves the pickles so that we do not have to use any preservatives.
Believe it or not, many pickles found in a grocery store contain chemical based preservatives such as Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Metabisulphite. The truth is, there is no need to add any chemicals if the pickles are preserved with a simple, traditional canning method. Salt, sugar, and vinegar act as the natural preservatives and prevent bacteria from forming in the jar.
We are also relentlessly committed to making the absolute best products of their kind, and when it comes to quality, we make no compromises. Our goal is to craft all natural products that are better than any existing products on the market. In order to achieve this goal, we use the best produce and pantry ingredients that we can find. When it comes to produce, we have to chase the harvest as the produce seasons change. We work with a produce broker who ensures that we receive the freshest and best quality raw ingredients that are available on the market. In fact, if we receive ingredients that are not up to our standards, we do not use them in our pickles or Bloody Mary Mix. We will even go as far as forgoing making batches of our products, if necessary, instead of using lower quality ingredients.
Similar to our pickles, our vegan Bloody Mary Mix is built around ten simple, high quality ingredients. As a result, it requires no doctoring and one serving of our vegan mix has 25 calories, 0 grams of fat, 0 cholesterol, 5 grams of carbs, and 2 grams of sugar (none of which are added). Cucumber infused water, a byproduct of our pickling process, is the star ingredient in our famed vegan Bloody Mary Mix. Paired with generous amounts of horseradish, dill, garlic, and habaneros, we bottled the essence of your backyard garden, shattering the stigma that freshness can’t come in a jar. Unlike most mixes, ours only contains ten ingredients. It is bursting with bold, rich flavors and is ready to drink as is, no doctoring required. Just like conventional pickles, the ingredients found in most Bloody Mary mixes are often full of chemicals, preservatives, and compound ingredients, such as Worcestershire sauce, caramel color, and soy sauce, which contain many chemicals and preservatives. Our bestselling Bloody Mary Mix has the following ingredients: water, tomato paste, vinegar, cucumber juice, salt, dill, garlic, horseradish, spices, habanero. All of these natural items are ingredients that you would have in your pantry or garden, and they are vegan and gluten free, which surprisingly, is also rare for most conventional Bloody Mary mixes that are available on the market.
